We Came to Race - Even When We Have to Chase 'Em!
One thing can be said about dirt track racing - if Mother Nature decides it's time to rain, you can't do much about it. Unless, of course, you have options. Kye Blight and the BAR31 Team were all set to do a three-day show with the World of Outlaws Late Model Series, but the series canceled the Thursday show early in the week because of the weather forecast. The decision was made to stay a little closer to home and race as much as possible.
The team headed to Farmer City Speedway on Friday night. There were 13 DIRTcar Late Models signed in. Kye set 2nd fast time, which put the 31AUS on the pole of the heat race - and won! That put Kye on the front row for the feature and he finished the race in 4th place.
Saturday, we headed to Fairbury Speedway where they had 19 DIRTcar Late Models entered. Kye qualified 6th overall; started 3rd in the heat and finished 5th. If you look at the stats, Kye started the feature in 10th and ended in 10th, but he ran much of the race in 6th place. A late race caution happened and the 31AUS got shuffled back to 10th. We were still pretty happy with the car.
Sunday, we went to our first Lucas Oil MLRA Series race at Adams County, IL Speedway, where 30 entries signed in. Kye qualified 3rd in Group A, came home 2nd in the heat race and was slated to start 5th in the feature. That's when we had an issue. Kye said, "We heard a noise when we were warming the motor in staging before we went out (for the feature race). Paul and Alice (Stubber) give us great equipment to use, and I have put everything into being a full-time racecar driver and didn't think losing a motor this early in the trip and hurting our chances at competing in the races when the season heats up." So, the car was loaded up and headed back to Greencastle.
Kye said, "It took us 3 nights to get back into things and work out our new package, but I feel like we really hit on some stuff at Quincy for the MLRA race. Spewing we didn't get to run that feature race, especially when we were due to roll off 5th."
The BAR31 Team is gearing up for a couple of Castrol FloRacing Night in America races this week - that is, if Mother Nature allows it.
