MARS at Tri-City Speedway Recap
On Friday, Kye Blight and the BAR31 Team headed west to Kevin and Tammy Gundaker’s Tri-City Speedway in Granite City, Illinois for the MARS Series $5K to win 30-lap A-Main event.
The evening started on a positive note with Kye putting down a qualifying lap of 14.608, fastest of the 27 late models that signed in. Mike Harrison, Cody Laney, Gordy Gundaker and Bob Gardner filled out the top five qualifiers.
In the heat race, Gundaker got a great start and was able to get around the 31AUS. The track had a bit of “character” in turn 3 which provided for some interesting racing. Kye and Jason Feger battled for the 2nd position, and Kye was able to take the checkers in front of Feger. Finishing in the top 2 sent Kye to the redraw, where he drew pill #5.
The BAR31 Team started the feature on the inside of row 3. An early caution on lap 4 would be the only time the race would slow down. In the end, the 31AUS took the checkers in 7th place.
Kye said, “We put a hard right rear tire on, got rolling when a couple of cars got to crashing each other. I ran up over Feger’s left rear tire and bent all my right front up. 7th is not a reflection of where we should have been.”
The next stop for the BAR31 Team is the MARS race at Highland Speedway in Highland, Illinois.
